Lee Granderson Scott, better known as L.G., was born August 5, 1940 in St. Louis, Missouri to Phillip Lee and Louvenia Scott.

His musical career started at the age of three as he watched and admired people playing the piano. He was the pianist for the first live radio broadcast of Lively Stone Church at the age of thirteen. L.G. was assigned duties as the Director of the Lively Stone Music Department at the age of fifteen. He administered leadership to the Senior Choir, the Pentecostal Chorus, the Youth Choir, and the Radio Broadcast Choir.

L.G. graduated from O’Fallon Technical School, received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Louis Institute of Music at Washington University in 1969, and acquired several professional certificates of achievement.

In 1963, he was the first organist to record with the famous O’Neal Twins. Approximately three years later, he helped form the Midwestern District Choir of the Thirteenth Episcopal District of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. In 1970, this choir produced its first album entitled “Witness” winning the choir the “Choir of the Year Award” by the late Reverend James Cleveland of the Gospel Music Workshop of America.

In 1972, L.G. organized the Lee Scott Singers. They recorded their first album, “Peacemaker”, and performed in Madison Square Garden in New York City, New York. The “Peacemaker” album received two gold record awards from the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Fund. In addition, L.G’s rendition of “I Have a Dream” sung by Austin Layne, Jr. received a gold record award as a single 45 recording.

In 1972, he founded the Mid America Recording Company recording several artists including Zella Jackson Price and her first song “Say a Little Prayer for Me.” Approximately, two years later, he formed the Mid-America Gospel Enterprise, which included a music school and recording plus publishing studios. Motivated to move forward, Mid-America Gospel Records was established in 1978. It was through these accomplishments that L.G. gained national and international acclaim. He has touched the lives of many well-known artists in the music industry such as Donny Hathaway, Lionel Richie, The Commodores, Benny Cummings, Timothy Wright, and Phil Driscoll to name a few.

He transitioned from this life on April 20, 2022 in Columbus, Ohio.
